David Lesser Shelter
The turnoff for David Lesser shelter is located about 3 miles south of WV Rt 9. The shelter is about 100 yards east off the trail. We pass this shelter during the VA AT #1 hike. As it comes so early in the hike, we usually have just a short rest stop here before continuing to have lunch further down the trail. Because it is off the trail, we sometimes do not even visit the shelter. There is one lean-to structure with benches and a triple-adirondack chair on its open porch. There is also a separate, covered picnic table, a two-person swing and a few tenting spaces The privy is located a short distance from the shelter. A marked trail leads a quarter mile steeply downhill to a spring which had very little water when I was there in October.
